Steve Jobs' Beloved Private Jet and Kona Village
Steve Jobs' Beloved Private Jet and Kona Village
Steve Jobs, known for his pursuit of simplicity and innovation, had one essential luxury in his life—a private jet. For Jobs, a private jet was not just a mode of transportation but a means to create meaningful moments with his family.

In 2000, after successfully rebuilding Apple, Steve Jobs was still working without pay. As a gesture of appreciation, Apple’s board of directors decided to compensate him, and Jobs requested a private jet to travel comfortably with his family to Kona Village in Hawaii. The board approved his request, and he received a basic Gulfstream V model worth approximately $40 million.
However, Jobs was not content with a standard jet. He spent over a year meticulously customizing every detail, down to the design of the small metal buttons. Ultimately, Apple spent a total of $88 million on his private jet.
The Gulfstream V is an ultra-long-range jet capable of flying over 12,000 km, renowned for its exceptional performance and comfort. Jobs used his jet not only for business trips but also for medical transportation during his battle with cancer. However, the primary reason he used his private jet was for family vacations. Disliking the inconvenience and privacy issues associated with commercial airlines, Jobs considered his private jet an essential tool for the perfect vacation experience.

After Jobs’ passing, the jet was used by Jonathan Ive, Apple’s chief design officer and Jobs’ close friend, but its current whereabouts remain unknown.
Kona Village: Steve Jobs' Favorite Getaway
Steve Jobs' favorite vacation destination was Kona Village on the Big Island of Hawaii. Located on the island’s north coast, Kona Village is a secluded luxury resort where one can immerse in the tranquility of nature.

Jobs cherished his time at Kona Village, prioritizing quality moments with his family. Rather than extravagant facilities, he valued the kindness of the resort staff, the respect for privacy shown by other guests, and the convenience of the nearby private jet terminal. For Jobs, Kona Village was not just a vacation spot but a sanctuary where he could restore balance in his life.

Unfortunately, Kona Village was devastated by a tsunami in 2011 and remained closed for years. Fortunately, it has recently undergone a complete renovation and has reopened, once again inviting guests to experience its unique charm.
The Value of Private Aviation
The story of Steve Jobs' private jet and his cherished vacation spot illustrates that private aviation is more than just a means of travel—it enhances the quality of life. A private jet is not merely about saving time; it allows individuals to create unforgettable moments with their loved ones.
Air Charter Korea is pioneering private aviation in South Korea, offering unparalleled private flight services. As airspace regulations evolve and aviation technology advances, the dream of experiencing private air travel—once reserved for figures like Steve Jobs—may soon become a reality for many in Korea.
